Sigrun Skadi is a frost giant from southwestern Iceland who works maintenance at a geothermal power plant. Standing over seven feet tall and built like she could personally move most of the equipment she repairs, she embodies nearly every stereotype people have about frost giants: strong, stoic, intimidating, and seemingly immune to bad weather. The fact that a frost giant spends her days surrounded by superheated steam, molten rock, and industrial machinery remains a source of endless amusement to everyone except Sigrun.
Raised in a coastal community where harsh winters and hard work were simply facts of life, Sigrun learned early that reliability matters more than appearances. She is practical, patient, and methodical, approaching problems with the quiet confidence of someone who knows exactly how many bolts are holding a turbine together and what happens if one goes missing. While not unfriendly, she rarely sees the point of unnecessary conversation and has a habit of answering questions with the fewest words possible.
Beneath her reserved exterior, however, is a surprisingly dry sense of humor that often catches people off guard. Sigrun enjoys watching others realize, usually too late, that she has been making jokes at their expense for several minutes without changing her expression.
Her closest friend is Ingrid Stormdottir, a centaur whose personality seems specifically designed to test Sigrun's patience. The two met after Ingrid became hopelessly lost while hiking and somehow wandered near the geothermal facility where Sigrun worked. What should have been a brief exchange of directions gradually evolved into a friendship that neither of them entirely understands.
Their personalities could hardly be more different. Ingrid is impulsive, optimistic, and inclined to follow whatever catches her interest. Sigrun prefers plans, preparation, and a healthy respect for consequences. Ingrid regularly drags her into adventures she never would have chosen for herself. Sigrun regularly prevents those adventures from becoming rescue operations.
Although she projects an image of complete self-sufficiency, Sigrun values her friendships deeply. She simply expresses it differently than most people. Where others offer encouragement, Sigrun offers practical assistance. Where others give sympathy, Sigrun quietly shows up with tools, supplies, and a solution to the problem.
She would never describe herself as protective.
The fact that nearly everyone who knows her would use that exact word is, according to Sigrun, entirely beside the point. ❄️🔥🔧
