This upscale works better with realistic images.

For Anime style, I suggest you to use 4X Ultrasharp (you can find it in suggested tab)

HOW TO INSTALL:

Rename the file from:

4x_NMKD-Superscale-SP178000_G.pt to: 4x_NMKD-Superscale-SP178000_G.pth

Copy the file 4x-UltraSharp.pth inside the folder: "\YOUR~STABLE~DIFFUSION~FOLDER\models\ESRGAN\")

Restart you Stable Diffusion

Now in "Extra Tab" you got the new upscaler

funnily enough I've tried experimenting with a bunch of upscalers but I can't for the life of me determine the difference between each of them xD
In the end I mostly go with 4x-Animesharp nowadays with most checkpoints(including aniverse) at it seems to work pretty well :shrug:

fair enough but I see these somewhat weird streaks on the face so while I do like the better textures on the clothing, sometimes other aspects of the images are kinda worse(imo) compared to other upscalers

The description for NMKD superscale upscaler on the upscale wiki is "Upscaling of realistic images/photos with noise and compression artifacts". If you're genning photorealistic it would be better but for an anime style I imagine the animesharp model would be better. If you're upscaling as part of high res fix then you probably won't notice much of a difference unless you use very low denoising.

@Samael1976 I don't think you need to remove this, maybe just make sure you have it in the description what it does better and what it does worse and let people decide!

@FlawedCreator That's how much the model upscales the image. An 8x model will output an image 8x the resolution of the input image. If the scale you have set in the ui is different than that, it is then once the model is done upscaling the image will then be scaled with a traditional image scaling method to get the final resolution requested.

Hi, thanks a lot for your amazing work. I guess there is a lil mistake in the description here, you write "Copy the file 4x-UltraSharp.pth inside the folder: "\YOUR~STABLE~DIFFUSION~FOLDER\models\ESRGAN\")" I imagine you wanted to type 4X-NMKD.pth :)

You go into your stable diffusion folder and go >stable-diffusion-webui>models>ESRGAN. It goes in the ESRGAN folder

This upscale model seems to have been made 4 years ago. Have you not found an upscale that is better. I know this is for realism, and thats what I want, but what about for the 4xultraupscale also which is more for art/anime. Are these really the standard these days. What about one that adds detail?

i found this to be inferior to the basic RealESRGAN_2x on SD 1.5

might be my workflow, but yours make these line artifacts on just about everything. ive tried all of them from your repo and this one, including the superscaler.
