As someone who started out using v7.0a and started using each version as it came out, it's pretty interesting to see the progression of this model. I feel like this model, in terms of people, lives trying to strike a tradeoff between perfect realism and beauty (because reality isn't necessarily perfectly aesthetic). I would call the v7ish era and before mainly focused on getting a certain aesthetic, and since then it has been focused on edging up the realism bit by bit. With later versions, I've especially noticed skin texture improvements, more consistency in hands like in fingernail similarity, more face variation, and the subject feels like it 'fits' into the environment more with the lighting and such. That said, if one liked the face aesthetics of v7.0, you'll have a very hard time getting that in later versions I think. Occasionally, you'll get the god seed and get a v7 style face with the incredibly realism of v14 but generally speaking, they're very different beast. I think it's a matter of personal preference what kind of trade off one likes - no necessarily right or wrong answer. In my ideal world (which may be impossible), it would be like the facial aesthetics of v7 and the other points of realism that later versions like v14 provide. It's all incredible work though regardless. Very impressive and my favorite model line readily available.

how does v14.0 compare to v7.0 XL?
Comparing CyberRealistic Pony to CyberRealistic XL is kind of like comparing pears and apples - both are fruits, but they serve very different purposes. They overlap a bit in quality and detail, but they’re built for completely different subjects and workflows, so it really depends on what you’re trying to create.

@alyla XL models for SFW and some NSFW photographic stuff, it's amazing what you can get out of them with the right prompts, different faces, lighting styles, color grading etc. Pony and Illustrious are mainly for NSFW, great poses, bodies, but faces and bodies look very similar and idealized, also not very much style and lighting variety.

It works also very well with a Lora DMD2 …. CFG 1 to 1.3 LCM/Karras steps 8 !! (5-10)
@EtherealCanvas This is interesting. Looking at the detail, I feel like 30 to maybe 45ish is still the best bet, but I do find it interesting that details alone (ignoring any over-sharpness issues that may happen with higher steps), the 100 steps imo looks better than the 60, but the 30 steps also looks better than the 60. Instead of trying to crank out quality through steps alone, I feel doing 30 to 45 steps and then using a face detailer node (comfyui-impact-pack) to fix the minor face problems is a better solution Then you can use an upscaler (I like the 4x_NMKD-Superscale-SP_178000_G.pth) to restore some detail. You can add some light film grain for more texture. Faster, and better quality arguably.
That's sorta how my usual workflow is. I look at the preview after facedetailer, before upscale. If I don't like it, stop the workflow, restart. If I like it except the face, I stop it, put it through a separate IP-Adapter workflow. If I like it all, I let it continue through upscale.

v14 is really good. Cyber Realistic Pony is a strong contender for the best SDXL/Pony checkpoint ever made...perhaps they best. I'm a little biased & say Pony Realism v2.2 takes the No#1 slot....but it's damn close, regardless ;) (We can pretend it's a draw lol)
