Hello hello, my fellow AI Art lovers. Version 8 just released. Did you like the cover with the ∞ symbol? This version holds a special meaning for me.
DreamShaper started as a model to have an alternative to MidJourney in the open source world. I didn't like how MJ was handled back when I started and how closed it was and still is, as well as the lack of freedom it gives to users compared to SD. Look at all the tools we have now from TIs to LoRA, from ControlNet to Latent Couple. We can do anything. The purpose of DreamShaper has always been to make "a better Stable Diffusion", a model capable of doing everything on its own, to weave dreams.
With SDXL (and, of course, DreamShaper XL 😉) just released, I think the "swiss knife" type of model is closer then ever. That model architecture is big and heavy enough to accomplish that the pretty easily. But what about all the resources built on top of SD1.5? Or all the users that don't have 10GB of vram? It might just be a bit too early to let go of DreamShaper.

PS: the primary goal is still towards art and illustrations. Being good at everything comes second.
Suggested settings:
- I had CLIP skip 2 on some pics, the model works with that too.
- I have ENSD set to 31337, in case you need to reproduce some results, but it doesn't guarantee it.
- All of them had highres.fix or img2img at higher resolution. Some even have ADetailer. Careful with that tho, as it tends to make all faces look the same.
- I don't use "restore faces".
For old versions:
- Versions >4 require no LoRA for anime style. For version 3 I suggest to use one of these LoRA networks at 0.35 weight:

LCM
Being a distilled model it has lower quality compared to the base one. However it's MUCH faster and perfect for video and real time applications.
Use it with 5-15 steps, ~2 cfg. IT WORKS ONLY WITH LCM SAMPLER (as of December 2023, Auto1111 requires an external plugin for it).

NOTES
Version 8 focuses on improving what V7 started. Might be harder to do photorealism compared to realism focused models, as it might be hard to do anime compared to anime focused models, but it can do both pretty well if you're skilled enough. Check the examples!
Version 7 improves lora support, NSFW and realism. If you're interested in "absolute" realism, try AbsoluteReality.
Version 6 adds more lora support and more style in general. It should also be better at generating directly at 1024 height (but be careful with it). 6.x are all improvements.
Version 5 is the best at photorealism and has noise offset.
Version 4 is much better with anime (can do them with no LoRA) and booru tags. IT might be harder to control if you're used to caption style, so you might still want to use version 3.31.
V4 is also better with eyes at lower resolutions. Overall is like a "fix" of V3 and shouldn't be too much different.
Results of version 3.32 "clip fix" will vary from the examples (produced on 3.31, which I personally prefer).

You should use 3.32 for mixing, so the clip error doesn't spread.
Inpainting models are only for inpaint and outpaint, not txt2img or mixing.

After a lot of tests I'm finally releasing my mix model. This started as a model to make good portraits that do not look like cg or photos with heavy filters, but more like actual paintings. The result is a model capable of doing portraits like I wanted, but also great backgrounds and anime-style characters. Below you can find some suggestions, including LoRA networks to make anime style images.

I have a genuine question, its been almost a year now for AI and tbh, the only problem Ai has is hands, controlnet fixes it but not really, Midjourney is still better with hands, can you see in future we eliminate this issue?

Also just to address something rq: XL didn't solve the hands problem. It just tends to hide hands more.

@Artificial_Excellence No sadly not. I have already posted in the dsxl section that in my opinion trained xl models are only superior to sd 1.5 if a trained xl refiner is ready to run

Inspiring stuff and on point. Dabbled with MJ for a few months and the inability to be able to finesse and fine-tune results in any meaningful way really irked me. SD and open source all the way.
My Dream is for a photorealistic model to be able to "wink with one eye closed" without any LoRAs, TIs, ControlNets, etc. 🙏Please make it happen!🙏

great job, but I like v7 a bit more instead of the more photo focused v8. I prefer when semi realistic digital art models are separate from photo realism.
as you can see from the cover itself, this still defaults to digital art. Being better at realism doesn't mean it lost something. It can even do anime.

Maybe my perception sucks, but to me dreamshaper looks better than sdxl. I have yet to get my mind blown by a vanilla sdxl image in all honesty and dreamshaper images do that on a regular basis. Keep up the great work!
have you seen my Greg Rutkowski LoRA on XL and my Arcane XL LoRA?
Some results are pretty good for a model that has been around for a couple of days ;)
Check them out on Anime Art Diffusion XL and DreamShaper XL.
Also I'll tell you a secret: you can generate on both in the same workflow and combine them (like generate with XL and highres fix with 1.5 and vice-versa).

imo the only thing they seem better at are hands, and far less deformities like melting faces, or extra hands and fingers, which can be fixed with the right prompts, negative embeddings, and inpainting in 1.5. but it is nice to have it to make things easier. it also seems to be better at multiple subjects. which is good, but unfortunately I don't have a graphics card that can run it yet. im saving up for one though.
im also waiting for more nsfw models for it. lol
@Lykon Oh, I was just talking about vanilla sdxl. I'm sure once people get their sdxl-based checkpoints and loras out like yours, those WILL blow my mind. Just when someone swoons over an unaltered pic of vanilla sdxl on youtube or so I keep thinking "meh, what is he so hyped about? I've seen a million times better ones with dreamshaper 7". Vanilla sdxl is hyped like the next coming of jebus and I'm just not feeling it yet. :p

As an ordinary user, it is difficult for me to understand, SDXL seems to improve the effect does not meet the hardware requirements it needs, most users who use SD do not have 4090 or A100, H100 these devices to draw, can not greatly reduce the performance requirements, I do not think XL will be better than SD1.5, if there is no alien technology to greatly depreciate the graphics card memory or let SDXL hardware requirements reduce to SD1.5 level, SDXL's target audience may not be ordinary people in the first place
People hype of SDXL not because of the image output i think, its more because the foundational structure of the model itself is better (larger base resolution, pipeline, etc etc, i dont really understand myself). Meaning, if in the future we will get a dreamshaper model based on it, it'll definitely be better, more versatile and easy to control.

@freedomkou you kind of nailed the point. Even if XL models become better than 1.5 models, there is still the issue that XL, as the name suggests, is heavy
I've heard so much about this model but never really gave it a try as I'm more into photorealistic models. but this one seems to venture towards photorealism so imma give it a shot. just gave a like and downloaded. thanks for everything you do for the community
keep in mind it's a bit harder to use for photorealism compared to the likes of AbsoluteReality. The main focus of this model is art and digital illustrations. The dip into photorealism is more like "it can do it".

Does v8 come with a baked in VAE?
Seems to be. I tested without VAE applied and with the standard EMA one, and the colors didn't change.
So how's 8? any thoughts from people who've tried it?

I didn't think it was going to be much of an improvement because 7 came out so recently but I actually think it's a vast improvement for the stuff I was doing, which is mostly landscape paintings. So take that for what it's worth :)
I conducted some tests using images from V7.0 before, which seemed to enhance some lighting effects and facial correction, but some strange things appeared in the images..........
Is this XL model? Is there an inpainting version please?
Thank you for all the hard work you've done for the community. Dreamshaper quickly landed in my top tier of go-to models for the kind of imagery I work on. Including inpainting versions was a nice bonus saving me time from making my own.
Can't wait to see what you have in store for us as SDXL matures over the next year!

In most cases, this model is great, and I would prioritize using dreamshaper for many creative ideas. However, it seems that even in the V8 version, when trying to create some intense battles or battlefields, it is difficult for the model to draw a composition I tried using CROWD (which occasionally works), but it seems difficult to use the words' many people 'or' many people '. The problem is that DreamShaper seems to have poor perception of multi person scenarios? Or is there something wrong with my prompt words? Also, it seems that @Lykon, your cgmecha LORA has been in private for some time?
Have you had better success with other base models? Because I think this is more a limitation of SD in general. However, you can get around it by using ControlNet with OpenPose and using a source image of a battlefield. Good luck!
Dude. 99.9% of those so called "models" here in Civitai are nothing more than merges of merges of merges, etc.
Except OpenAI not so many people in the world have enough GPU power and/or knowledge to TRAIN an actual model.
All those limitations are Stable Diffusion 1.5 limitations. And you'll have the same limits more or less with every model. Because they are ALL based on the same BASE MODEL.
My favorite all time model. SD would not be the same without you. Is v8 your last for 1.5 then?...I feel SDXL still has a way to go to garner the same resources (ie loras, ti's, etc) before it can replace 1.5.
